Description
Introduced by our friends at Goodness Grows in Georgia, ‘Lollipop’ are bi-generic Candy Lilies developed by crossing selected colors of x Pardancanda with Dwarf Yellow Blackberry Lilies. From the progeny, chosen bloom hues include deep-mahogany-reds, pinks, lavenders and purples produced by plants with the dwarfish growth habit of Belamcanda flabellata (Blackberry Lilies). These beauties bloom during summer and the flowers are followed by seed pods that open to reveal clusters of seeds that look just like a blackberry.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a clump 18 to 24 inches tall and around 18 inches wide, the Lollipop Candy Lily is ideal for use as an accent or in groupings in sunny to lightly shaded garden beds. Also nice as an accent plant mixed with other sun-loving plants in combination container gardens. A fine addition to lily and iris gardens, cut flower gardens, perennial gardens and cottage gardens.Â
Suggested Spacing:Â 15 to 18 inches apart for mass plantings; 36 inches or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
When planted right and in the right spot, Candy Lilies are exceptionally easy to grow. Though they will perform well in a wide range of soil types and conditions, they prefer a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. For best bloom we suggest full to mostly sun, which means at least 6 to 7 hours of direct sunlight. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance is minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food. No pruning necessary except to cut flowers stems for use in dried flower arrangements.
